Making Space: A Justice-Oriented Approach to Accessibility in Creative Technology Spaces

Oscar Keyes, Multimedia Teaching & Learning Librarian at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, will discuss the steps undertaken by The Workshop staff at VCU Libraries to make their creative technology space more accessible for users with disabilities. Their approach was informed by the lived experiences of disabled advocates/activists and was supplemented by literature from disability studies. The goal is for participants to come to understand that designing a space to be accessible is the starting point rather than the final goal.
